Statesboro, Ga. – Mac Scott concluded his first collegiate tournament with his first career top-5 finish on Sunday to lead the Furman men's golf team during the final day of the Schenkel Invitational from the par 72, 6962-yard Forest Heights Country Club.
The freshman from Mountain Brook, Ala., ended his final round with a birdie on the par 5 18
th hole to finish with a 74. Scott concluded the tournament tied for fourth place after shooting a 4-under par 212 (66-72-74).
Sophomore
Ross Funderburke, who highlighted yesterday's round with a hole-in-one, carded a 76 in the final round to record a career-best finish of tied for 13
th at 1-over 217 (71-70-76). He began the day with two birdies over his first five holes.
Senior
Keller Harper's final round 77 placed him in a tie for 21
st position after posting a three-round score of 220 (70-73-77). He posted two birdies during his final round on the par 4 eighth hole and par 5 18
th.
Junior
Jack Crosby, who had one birdie on the day, followed Harper with a third round 78 to finish tied for 40
th place at 224 (76-70-78).
Sophomore
Reynolds Lambert rounded out the leaderboard for the Paladins with a second consecutive round of 76 to finish at 227 (75-76-76).
Furman finished in third place of the team standings at the Schenkel Invitational. The Paladins carded a final round 303 to compile a total score of 870 (282-285-303), finishing four strokes back of No. 40 Georgia Southern. Furman tied its season-best performance, which also came at the season-opening Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.
No. 21 N.C. State won the Schenkel Invitational by 17 strokes over Georgia Southern at 25-under par 839.
N.C. State's Benjamin Shipp captured individual championship honors shooting 16-under 200.
The Paladins ranked third among the tournament field in par 4 scoring (4.15 stroke average), and fourth in both par 3 (3.13 stroke average) and par 5 (-10, 4.83 stroke average) scoring. Furman tied for the tournament lead in eagles (2), and was third in pars (175) and tied for fourth in birdies (38).
Scott led the Paladins individually in par 4 (-3, 3.90 stroke average) and par 5 (-5, 4.58 stroke average) scoring. He ranked third at the tournament in par 4 scoring and tied for sixth in par 5 scoring. Funderburke tied for the tournament lead in par 3 scoring at 3-under with a 2.75 stroke average. Funderburke had a team-high 38 pars and Harper added 10 birdies. Funderburke and Scott both finished with one eagle.
Furman is back in action March 26-28 hosting 17 teams as part of the 51
st Furman Intercollegiate from the Furman Golf Course.
