No. 34 Furman Cruises To 6-1 Victory Over UNCG

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- No. 34 Furman cruised to a 6-1 victory over UNCG Friday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.  The Paladins (14-6, 3-0 SoCon) have won 13 out of their last 15 matches and hold Power 5 victories over Alabama, 16th-ranked Wake Forest, No. 18 South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Clemson this season and are 4-0 versus teams in South Carolina, having defeated USC, Clemson, Presbyterian, and Wofford.

Furman swept the doubles matches to claim the first point.  Senior Katarina Kozarov and junior Julia Adams, who rank 16th nationally, blanked Hanna Giddings and Sophia Adams, 6-0, at flight one, and junior Madison Dillon and senior MaryAnn Rompf topped Tayah Cross and Emily Ory, 6-2, at number two.  At flight three, sophomore Maggie Pate and freshman Ellie Schoppe defeated Brianna Gomez and Juliana Craft, 6-3.

The Paladins won five out of the six singles, all in straight sets.  Kozarov, who ranks seventh nationally, downed Adams, 6-0, 6-4, at number one, and Dillon held off Giddings, 6-4, 6-1, at flight three.  At number four, Rompf scored a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ory, and Pate blew past Eugenia Camacho, 6-1, 6-2, at number five.  Schoppe posted a 6-1, 6-2 advantage versus Craft at flight six. 

UNCG (4-3, 1-3 SoCon) scored at flight two, where Gomez outlasted 77th-ranked Adams, 6-4, 7-6.

Furman (14-6, 3-0 SoCon) will entertain Davidson Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
