OXFORD, Miss. -- Furman senior Ryan Adams set a program record in the 1,500m Saturday at the Joe Walker Invite in Oxford, Miss.
Adams crossed the line in 3:38.29, breaking the former record of 3:42.25, which he set in 2016, by almost four seconds. He, along with eight other runners, bested the previous stadium record of 3:40.18, which was set in 2004. Adams placed sixth at the meet and currently ranks seventh on the NCAA East Preliminaries qualifying list.
Junior Cameron Ponder finished 12th with a time of 3:41.83, which ranks 17th on the national qualifying list, while freshman Carson Williams posted a time of 3:50.33 for 51st.
The top 32 individuals in each event will qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships, which will be held May 27-29 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Furman will compete at the EKU Invitational in Richmond, Ky., April 16-17, and at the USC Open in Columbia, S.C., April 17.
