IRVINE, CALIF. -- Senior Gabbi Jennings set a new Furman 5,000m program record of 15:33.59 Sunday morning at the Sound Running Track Meet in Irvine, Calif.
A native of Slidell, La., Jennings, who competed against a slate of professional and collegiate runners who were paced by former Paladin and current Brooks Beasts Track Club member Allie Buchalski, took almost two seconds off the previous record of 15:35.55, which was set by Buchalski in 2017. She placed seventh overall and second among collegiate competitors in her heat.
Jennings, who currently ranks third on the NCAA East Preliminaries qualifying list at 9:43.48 in the 3,000m Steeplechase and seventh in the 1,500m (4:12.60), earned All-American honors in the 3,000m Steeplechase during the 2019 outdoor season. Her 5,000m time from Sunday ranks sixth in the East region, while she sits at 18th in the East in the 800m with a time of 2:04.66.
Qualifying individuals will compete at the NCAA East Preliminaries May 27-29 in Jacksonville, Fla.
