Greenville, S.C. – Erin Fitzgerald has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the Furman women's lacrosse program, head coach Rachel Whitten announced today.
Fitzgerald, a native of Mt. Sinai, N.Y., recently completed her fourth year with the Paladins after being hired as an assistant coach prior to the 2018 season. She currently serves as the program's offensive and recruiting coordinator, while overseeing the draw team.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to continue leading the Paladin women's lacrosse program, now as Associate Head Coach," stated Fitzgerald. "I've enjoyed growing this program each year with head coach Rachel Whitten and look forward to our continued success in the future."
Since Fitzgerald joined Furman, the program has captured two SoCon Regular Season Championships in 2019 and 2021, while appearing in three consecutive SoCon tournament championship games. The Paladins have won 34 games during her tenure highlighted by a 12-5 mark this past season and 11-8 record in 2019.
Fitzgerald has coached seven All-SoCon performers throughout her time in Greenville, including this past season's Offensive Player of the Year in
Hannah Demis and Freshman of the Year in
Meagan Beal. Demis finished the 2021 campaign fourth nationally in both assists and assists per game, and 19
th in points, while
Kyra LaMotte earned First Team All-SoCon accolades after ranking 15
th in the nation for goals and 21
st in goals per game.
"Erin has deserved this title since the first day I hired her," Whitten said. "She has gone above and beyond to take this program to the next level and I cannot thank her enough for what she does for Furman lacrosse. Erin is innovative, understands the game, works hard on and off the field, and, most importantly, has a connection with the team that is undeniable."
Fitzgerald lettered four years at Northwestern from 2010-13 while helping the Wildcats advance to four NCAA Division I Final Fours and win two National Championships. She was twice named an IWLCA All-American, First Team in 2013 and Second Team in 2012, and was nominated for the Tewaarton Award in 2013, which is presented annually to the NCAA women's lacrosse player of the year.
A two-time American Lacrosse Conference selection, Fitzgerald concluded her career at Northwestern eighth all-time with 190 goals and tenth with 216 points. She was twice named Academic All-Big Ten in 2012 and 2013.
She graduated from Northwestern with a bachelor's degree in communications.
Fitzgerald married Jeremy Ebert in March of 2018. The couple has a son, James Daniel.
