Greenville, S.C. – Wake Forest's Chase Oliver and Omar Hernandez netted a pair of second half goals on Sunday evening to lead the seventh-ranked Demon Deacons to a 2-0 exhibition victory over the Furman men's soccer team from Stone Stadium.
The teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half with Wake Forest holding a 5-4 advantage in shots.
After a brief delay to the second half due to weather, Oliver got the Demon Deacons on the board less than two minutes into the period. Following a corner kick near side, Oliver collected the rebound far side and scored just over the reach of Furman goalie
Ben Roberts. Hernandez extended Wake Forest's lead to 2-0 in the 84
th minute, scoring off a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box.
Callum Holland led the Paladins with two shots including one on goal.
Miles Fenton,
Jake Raine and
Alfredo Diaz-Santillan added one apiece, while Fenton and Diaz-Santillan had one attempt on goal.
Hernandez and Kyle Holcomb combined for seven shots for the Demon Deacons, and both attempted two on goal.
Roberts finished the contest with five saves highlighted by four in the second half. Cole McNally and Trace Alphin had one save apiece for Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons held a 17-6 advantage in total shots and 7-3 in shots on goal.
Furman concludes its exhibition schedule on Friday, August 20 when it hosts North Florida at 6 p.m. from Stone Stadium.
