Anderson’s Two Goals Lift Furman Past Presbyterian in Season Opener, 3-0

Paladins Improve to 14-1 All-Time vs. Presbyterian

Clinton, S.C. – Kyndal Anderson tied her career-high of two goals on Friday evening to help lead the Furman women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory in its season opener over the Presbyterian Blue Hose from Edens Field at Martin Stadium.

Furman improves to 1-0 on the season while Presbyterian drops to 0-1 overall.

The Paladins dominated the opening half in which they limited the Blue Hose to just one shot, which came in the opening six minutes of play. Furman held a 10-1 edge in shots during the first 45 minutes with Anderson attempting three, and Jasmine Greene and Nieva Gaither providing two apiece.

Hannah Farr got the Paladins on the board first in the 19th minute with Gaither contributing the assist. Anderson extended Furman's lead to 2-0 less than three minutes later off the assist from Isabella Gutierrez.

The Paladins continued to pile on the pressure in the second half, attempting 14 shots while holding Presbyterian to just four. Anderson, a redshirt-junior from Acworth, Ga., closed out her scoring in the 74th minute, with the assist coming from Camryn Bolick, to seal the 3-0 victory for the Paladins.

Anderson concluded the contest with a game-high six shots including four on goal. Gutierrez, Greene and Gaither both provided four shots. In goal, Addison Corn picked up the win after playing a scoreless 45 minutes. Nora Sampson recorded three saves during the second half.

Sarah Dieffenderfer attempted a team-high two shots for the Blue Hose. Kelly Hall made four saves in the second half while Megan Serrano started the match and grabbed three.

Furman finished with a 24-5 advantage in shots and 10-3 in attempts on goal. The Paladins also led 3-1 in corner kicks.

Furman plays its first home contest of the season on Sunday afternoon when it hosts Longwood at 2 p.m. from Stone Stadium.
