Furman Drops 2-0 Road Contest at Elon

Paladins Open SoCon Play Next Friday Hosting Wofford

Elon, N.C. – The Furman women's soccer team played its final non-conference game of the season on Friday evening and fell 2-0 on the road against the Elon Phoenix at Rudd Field.

Furman drops to 4-2-1 overall while Elon improves to 5-3 on the season.

Carson Jones scored both goals for the Phoenix while Kate Lowe contributed one assist. Jones netted her goals in the 5th and 56th minutes.

Jones put Elon ahead 1-0 in the 5th minute off the assist from Lowe. Lowe lofted a pass near side over the Paladin defense and Jones ran in front of goalkeeper Addison Corn to score on the one-timer at the top of the six-yard box.

Elon extended its lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute courtesy of Jones' second goal of the contest, scoring unassisted. Jones beat a Furman defender near side and dribbled to the left corner of the six-yard box. Her attempt went past Corn into the left side of the net.

Nieva Gaither led the Paladins with four shots while Isabella Gutierrez and Jasmine Greene contributed three apiece. Greene attempted two shots on goal. Corn grabbed a total of two saves.

Jones had three shots, including two on goal, to lead the Phoenix. Goalkeeper McKenna Dalfonso recorded four saves.

Furman held a 13-8 advantage in shots and both teams tallied four attempts on goal. The Paladins also led 4-3 in corner kicks.

Furman begins Southern Conference play next Friday, September 24 hosting Wofford at 7 p.m.
