Greenville, S.C. – The Furman women's soccer team saw its season-opening three-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday evening with a 1-0 non-conference loss to the Indiana State Sycamores at Stone Stadium.
Furman drops to 3-1 on the season while Indiana State improves to 2-3 overall.
In the 49
th minute, Mackenzie Kent broke a scoreless tie for the Sycamores scoring her second goal of the season. Indiana State won possession of the ball on its side of the field and Kent received a pass in front of the Paladin back line. Kent cut back to the middle of the field and scored from 25 yards away past goalie
Nora Sampson, who tried to make a diving stop, for the lone goal of the contest.
Nieva Gaither led Furman with five shots while
Kyndal Anderson attempted four. Anderson had a team-high two shots on goal. Sampson and
Addison Corn combined for six saves with Sampson grabbing four in the second half and Corn two in the first.
CeCe Wahlberg had a team-best six shots for Indiana State, including three on goal, while Isabella Hunt had three and Kent two. Maddie Alexander registered four saves in goal.
The Sycamores held a 14-13 advantage in shots while the Paladins led 5-3 in corner kicks.
Furman plays its fourth consecutive home game on Sunday afternoon hosting North Greenville at 2 p.m.
