COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Furman indoor track and field team won four events Saturday at the Gamecock Indoor Opener at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex in Columbia.
The Paladin women's team claimed four victories, with sophomore Megan Marvin taking gold in the 800m, sophomore Jonna Strange leading the field in the mile, and sophomore Madelynne Cadeau winning the 3,000m.
Marvin posted a time of 2:07.31 for the 800m victory, while freshman Callie Harper turned in a time of 2:18.83 for sixth place. In the mile, Furman took the top five spots. Strange led the way at 4:56.83, followed by sophomore Beth Donnelly at 4:57.58. Junior Nicole Matysik crossed the line in 4:58.30 for third place, followed by freshman Sierra Bower in fourth place at 5:01.56. Sophomore Emily Little finished fifth with a time of 5:07.46.
In the 3,000m, Cadeau recorded a time of 9:39.97, and freshman Meghan Ford was third at 10:12.37.
Freshman Monica Seitz made her 400m collegiate debut, finishing 15th with a time of 1:01.35, and junior Erin MacDevette was 22nd with a personal-best of 1:02.19. Senior Sammy Trone took 29th at 1:04.55, followed by junior Caroline Nguyen in 30th with a personal-best time of 1:04.75.
On the men's side, the Paladins took the top three positions in the 3,000m. Junior Josh Powers won the event with a personal-best time of 8:35.77, followed by junior Benjamin Seeber in second with a PR of 8:36.10. In third place, junior James Lalonde recorded a personal best of 8:37.63. Freshman Casey Burr turned in a time of 8:45.45 for sixth place, and freshman Ethan Vargas was 12th at 9:07.01.
In the mile, Furman claimed four of the top seven spots. Junior Mac Roberts posted a personal-best of 4:12.93 for second place, and senior Noah Dolhare also scored a personal-best, placing fourth at 4:14.07. Junior Adam Beucler placed sixth with a PR of 4:16.04, followed by freshman Nick Goldstein in seventh at 4:19.77.
Junior Nick Epstein finished third with a time of 1:54.89 in the 800m, and junior Evin McEntee recorded a personal-best mark of 13.30m in the triple jump, finishing sixth. Sophomore Adrian Gonzalez posted a time of 7.61 for 44th in the 60m dash.
The Paladins will compete at the USC Invitational, January 28-29 in Columbia, S.C., and at the Millrose Games in New York City on January 29.
