GREENVILLE, S.C. – Twenty-five home games, including three February tournaments at Pepsi Stadium, highlight Furman softball's 2022 schedule, which was released this week by interim head coach Stacey Johnson-Whitfield.
The Paladins open the 2022 campaign Feb. 11-13, when the Paladins entertain North Dakota, Maryland Eastern Shore, Tarleton State, and Bellarmine. The following weekend, Feb. 18-20, South Dakota, Saint Francis, and Georgetown come to Greenville for a three-day tournament. After a Feb. 22 game at Georgia Tech, Furman will play host to George Mason, Iona, and Presbyterian, Feb. 25-27, to conclude the three tournaments in Greenville.
Furman faces Jacksonville State, Mississippi State, and Alcorn State in Starkville, Miss., March 4-6, before traveling to Tallahassee, Fla., for games versus Florida State and Florida A&M, March 8-9. The Paladins will also play at UCF and USC Upstate in March.
The Paladins open the Southern Conference season at Chattanooga on March 26. A slate of games versus in-state foes College of Charleston, Clemson, Charleston, and South Carolina are on the docket for the end of March and into April. The remainder of the home schedule includes SoCon series versus Samford (April 15-16), Western Carolina (April 23-23), and ETSU (May 7-8).
"We are looking forward to a very challenging schedule this spring," said Johnson-Whitfield. "It will be wonderful to begin our season with three home tournaments. My staff and I tried to balance those home series with some big road trips to Mississippi State, Florida State, and UCF, to name a few. The competition we face before our SoCon season starts will be tough but will hopefully prepare Furman softball for success."
The Paladins return three position starters and their top three pitchers from a 2021 squad that posted a 19-28 overall record and 8-9 SoCon mark.
Admission is free to all 25 Furman home games at Pepsi Stadium.
