Furman's Chloe Johnson Tied For 21st At Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Freshman Chloe Johnson (-1) is tied for 21st to pace Furman at the end of Friday's first round at the 20th Annual Landfall Tradition, which is being hosted by UNC Wilmington at the par 72, 6,150 yard Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.

A native of Evansville, Ind., Johnson teed off on 10 and played flawless golf through the first 13 holes.  She parred the opening eight holes then posted three birdies on her next five holes and sat at three under.  She added an additional birdie on No. 6 and finished the day with a 1-under 71, five shots back of leaders Charlotte Heath (-6) of Florida state and seventh-ranked Rachel Kuehn (-6) of Wake Forest, who each shot a 66 in round one. 

Senior Anna Morgan (E) also played a virtually flawless round and is one shot back of Johnson after shooting an even 72 with a birdie on No. 6 and 16 pars to tie for 30th, while senior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+3) is tied for 56th after one round of play.  Rhéaume carded a 75 with a team-high four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 13 and No. 14.

Junior Caroline Crumrine (+5) recorded a 77 to tie for 70th, while freshman Liza Lapeyre (+7) tallied a 79 to tie for 82nd.

Freshman Faith Johnson (+8), who is playing as an individual, shot an 80 with birdies on No. 17 and No. 18.  She is tied for 88th entering Saturday's second round. 

No. 9 San Jose State (-10) leads the field by one stroke after one round of play.  Second-ranked Wake Forest (-9) is in second place, just one shot off the lead, while No. 18 Florida state (-7) completes the top three.  Furman (+7) is tied for 14th with No. 11 Duke (+7) and 46th-ranked Maryland (+7).  The 18-team field includes 13 teams ranked in Golfstat's top 50. 

Round two of the 54-hole tournament begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with teams starting on No. 1 and No. 10.  The Paladins will tee off on No. 10 beginning at 9:15 a.m. and will play in a group with host UNC Wilmington and Duke.
