Furman Men's Golf Adds Two For 2023-24 Season

Furman Head Coach Matt Davidson

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman head men's golf coach Matt Davidson announced today that Walter Anderson and Fisher Kennedy will join the Paladin team during the 2023-24 season.

"Walter and Fisher will both be amazing additions for Furman golf in the fall of '23," said Davidson.  "Walter was someone who was a top priority for us from the start of the recruiting process in the summer of 2021.  His results, accomplishments, and talent speak for themselves, but Walter is also very smart and productive with the way he practices and approaches his improvement, so his upside is awfully high as well.

"Fisher impressed us from the very first time we watched him play late in the spring of this year," continued Davidson.  "He is a very gifted player with a beautiful golf swing and a ton of natural ability.  We think Fisher's ceiling is incredibly high and he has shown a passion for golf, plus a work ethic and a maturity that made him someone we needed to be a part of our program.  Most importantly, both Fisher and Walter will fit in seamlessly into the culture we are building both on and off the course.  They are talented golfers, dedicated students, and great people!"

A native of Baton Rouge, La., Anderson shot 14-under to win the AJGA Junior at Canebrake Club, posting scores of 70-66-66 over the three rounds.  The second-ranked player in his class in Louisiana, he ranks 35th nationally for the class of 2023 according to the AJGA Rolex Rankings.  Anderson, who won the SJGT Junior at Peninsula, was chosen the Baton Rouge Metro Player of the Year in both 2021 and 2022 after finishing as runner-up both individually and with his team at the Louisiana state championships.  An all-state selection in 2022, he placed among the top 10 at the Tommy Moore Sugar Bowl and shot 62 (-10) at his home course, the Baton Rouge Country Club, breaking the previous record, which was held by his father, Michael Anderson, who was a golfer at Spring Hill College from 1996-2000.  Anderson is an honor roll student at Catholic High School.

Kennedy, who hails from Winston-Salem, N.C., earned all-state and all region honors after leading R.J. Reynolds to a runner-up finish at the state championships.  A three-time all-conference selection, he placed third at the AJGA Junior at Southpointe and carded rounds of 69 and 65 to finish as runner-up at the Mimosa Hills Junior Invitational.  Kennedy, the runner-up at the 2021 Donald Ross Junior Championship, finished eighth at the AJGA Princeton Championship with rounds of 69-69-73.  He ranks 133rd nationally in his graduating class in the  AJGA Rolex Rankings.  Kennedy is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and the National Society of High School Honors and is the recipient of two Presidential Service Awards.
