GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman downed Belmont, 5-2, Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. 

The Paladins claimed victories in two doubles matches to take the first point.  Freshmen Cole Burnam and Elijah Poritzky blew past Grant Kelly and Alfred Wallin, 6-1, at flight three, then senior Ivan Mitric and freshman Jamie Connel scored a 7-6(2) victory over Tomas Luis and Diego Castro at flight one for the point.  The number two contest was unfinished, with Arthur Toledo and Taisei Miyamoto leading Paladin sophomore Emil Westling and senior James Roelofse, 5-4.

Furman won at flights two through five singles to clinch the match.  Connel held off Luis, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, at flight two, and Poritzky topped Ian Cruz, 6-4, 6-1, at number three.  At flight four, Roelofse downed Castro, 6-2, 6-2, and Westling defeated Miyamoto, 6-4, 6-3, at flight five.

Belmont (3-1) scored at flight one singles, where Toledo defeated Mitric, 6-3, 7-6(7), and at number six, where Wallin held off senior Drew Singerman, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(10-8). 

Furman (4-1) will entertain Georgia State Sunday at noon at the Mickel Tennis Center.
