Greenville, S.C. – Hannah Webb had three hits and two RBI, and Carson Goatley threw a complete game, to lead the Bellarmine Knights to a 9-0 victory in five innings over the Furman softball team on Sunday afternoon during the final day of the Paladin Invitational from Pepsi Stadium.
Furman drops to 2-2 on the season while Bellarmine improves to 3-2 overall.
Natalie Morgan and
Chloe Fabio led the Paladins offensively with one hit while
Lauralee Scott drew two walks.
Webb finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs while scoring twice. Sarah Ratterman and Alexis Hargrove both had two RBI. Anna Greenwell scored two runs.
Goatley (1-1) picked up the win after not allowing a run over five innings and gave up two hits to go with two walks and five strikeouts.
Shelby Maier (0-1) suffered the loss surrendering six runs (four earned) on six hits, one walk and one strikeout in 1.1 innings of work.
The Knights started the game by plating three runs each in the first and second innings to take an early 6-0 lead. Webb began the scoring in the top of the first with a base hit and Ratterman followed with an RBI single. With two outs, Hargrove drew a bases loaded walk and made it a 3-0 game. Ratterman, who later came home after a Furman error, added an RBI double in the second and Chloe Collins contributed an RBI single.
Bellarmine extended its lead to 6-0 after plating single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Webb doubled in a run during the third and Greenwell added an RBI double in the fourth. Hargrove completed the scoring with her RBI triple in the top of the fifth.
The Paladins continue their nine-game homestand to open the season next weekend, February 18-20, hosting the Furman Classic at Pepsi Stadium. Furman faces South Dakota and Saint Francis on Friday, Saint Francis and Georgetown on Saturday, and Georgetown on Sunday.
