Georgetown Downs Furman in Extra Innings, 3-2

Bartlett Homers for First Time this Season

Greenville, S.C. – The Georgetown Hoyas plated runs in the seventh and eighth innings to rally back for a 3-2 victory over the Furman softball team on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Furman Classic at Pepsi Stadium.

Furman drops to 3-6 on the season while Georgetown improves to 4-6 overall.

The Paladins trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth after the Hoyas scored a run in the first on Alyssa Chavez's RBI sacrifice fly to left field. Georgetown opened the game by loading the bases with one out after two singles and a Furman fielding error. Savannah Jones, who reached on a single, scored on the fly out by Chavez.

The Paladins evened the score at 1-1 in the fifth on Ashlee Lykins' RBI infield single. Furman loaded the bases with one out when Lauren Woodall and Kaitlyn Laudick walked and Chrissy Fleming singled. Becca Crawford, who pinch-ran for Woodall, scored on the single by Lykins. Emily Bartlett gave the Paladins a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth with her first home run of the season to right center field.

Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza led off the top of the seventh pinch-hitting for Kiki Besnard and doubled to left field. She advanced to third on a ground out and scored on Cameron Kondo's RBI sacrifice fly to center field. The Hoyas took the lead back in the top of eighth when a Furman throwing error with one out allowed Jones, who started the inning on second base, to score.

Kayla Dunn (2-0) picked up the win in relief throwing 3.2 innings and gave up one run on three hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Shelby Maier (0-2) took the loss throwing two relief innings and surrendered one run while recording one strikeout.

Isabella Cear made her first collegiate start and threw a career high six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, no walks and two strikeouts.

Lykins and Bartlett both had two hits and one RBI to lead the Paladins while Fleming contributed one hit.

Seven different Georgetown players recorded one hit and Kondo and Chavez provided one RBI.

Furman plays its first road game of the season on Tuesday afternoon when it travels to Atlanta, Ga. to face Georgia Tech at 3 p.m.
