GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman toppled Charleston Southern, 6-1, and lost to No. 12 Duke, 6-1, Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

The Paladins won two out of three doubles matches to claim the first point versus the Buccaneers.  Junior Madison Dillon and freshman Ellie Schulson teamed up for a 6-2 advantage versus Tiffany Pyritz and Zoe Cauthen at flight two, and freshmen Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder blanked Khyanna Singh and Madalina Man, 6-0, at flight three.

Furman claimed five of six singles points, as senior Julia Adams, who ranks 45th nationally, defeated Luiza Fullana, 6-2, 6-0, at number one, and sophomore Ellie Schoppe downed Laura Marti, 6-2, 6-3, at flight two.  At number three, Dillon blew past Man, 6-1, 6-1, and at flight four, Snyder came from behind for a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(10-4) victory over Noa Boyd.  Schulson beat Singh, 6-2, 6-1, at number five. 

Against the Blue Devils (4-1), Schoppe recorded a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9) victory over 26th-ranked Emma Jackson at flight three.  Dawson forced a third-set tiebreaker at number five, falling to 48th-ranked Ellie Coleman, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0(10-3).

"We were disappointed in how we played and competed in the first match, but I was really proud of the grit our team showed to come right back and take control over a strong Charleston Southern team," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen.  "We have a lot to learn from today, and I can see our team improving every week!"

Furman (5-3) will entertain Marshall Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.  Charleston Southern falls to 1-1 with the loss.
