GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman held off Presbyterian, 4-3, Wednesday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.Â
The Paladins won two out of three doubles matches to claim the opening point. Senior Ivan Mitric and freshman Jamie Connel downed Max Benson and Dusan Milanovic, 6-3, in the top-seeded match up, and freshmen Cole Burnam and Elijah Poritzky topped Javier Matos and Georgije Babic, 6-4, at number three. At flight two, Nicholas McKinney and Sebastian Dominguez slipped past senior James Roelofse and sophomore Ben Cahill, 7-5.Â
Connel defeated Milanovic, 6-3, 6-1, at flight two singles to push the Paladin lead to 2-0, then Benson put the Blue Hose on the board with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Mitric at number one. Poritzky beat McKinney, 6-4, 6-1, at flight three to extend the Furman advantage to 3-1, then senior Drew Singerman clinched the match for the Paladins with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Babic at flight five.Â
Presbyterian (2-5) won the final two points, with Matos holding off Roelofse, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, at number four, and Dominguez defeating Burnam, 6-4, 6-4, at flight six.
Furman (3-1) will square off against Belmont Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
