Furman Drops Non-Conference Finale at No. 23 Jacksonville

Shaw Leads Paladins with Two Goals, One Assist

Jacksonville, Fla. – Sarah Elms had a game high five points on four goals and an assist on Friday evening to lead the 23rd-ranked Jacksonville Dolphins to a 22-4 victory over the Furman women's lacrosse team in its final non-conference game of the season at Rock Stadium.

Furman falls to 0-5 on the year while Jacksonville improves to 5-3 overall.

Sophie Shaw led the Paladins after recording season highs in both goals and points. Shaw concluded the game with three points on two goals and one assist. Meagan Beal and Anna Roser each had one goal. Lauren Farber won four draws and Sophia Buzelis picked up two ground balls. Seven different players caused one turnover apiece. In goal, Lily Rathbun registered a career high 14 saves to go with one ground ball and one caused turnover.

Elms paced the Dolphins with her four goals and one assist while also contributing one ground ball and one caused turnover. Lauren Craft added a hat trick and four different players scored twice. Jacksonville had four players finish with two ground balls each and Caroline Peterson caused a game high three turnovers. Paige Pagano and Addy Tysdal combined for eight saves in goal. Pagano also compiled two ground balls.

Shaw scored Furman's final two goals of the contest and dished out her assist on Roser's goal at the 4:19 mark of the first quarter to put the score at 7-2 in favor of the Dolphins. Beal got the Paladins on the board first with 9:10 remaining in the opening quarter and cut their deficit down to 4-1.

Furman plays its first-ever Big South Conference game on Wednesday, March 30 hosting Wofford in the league opener at 6 p.m. from Paladin Stadium. The game is being streamed via paid subscription on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
