SUNSET, S.C. -- Junior Anna Morgan (E) carded a 73 and is tied for third to lead the 46th-ranked Furman women's golf team after Saturday's second round at the sixth annual Clemson Invitational at the par 72, 6,386 yard The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.
A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Morgan tallied a team-high four birdies with two on each side, to finish the day one stroke back of leaders Annabell Fuller (-1) of Florida and Brooke Biermann (-1) of Michigan State, who each posted two-round totals of 72-71=143. Just three players scored under par in Saturday's high winds.Â
Sophomore Sophia Burnett (+10) is tied for 39th after carding an 81 on Saturday, while senior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+14) tallied a 79 to tie for 74th. Senior Kyra Cox (+15) sits in 79th place after adding an 80 in Saturday's round, and freshman Savannah Hylton (+17) carded an 89 to tie for 86th.Â
Sophomore Caroline Crumrine (+29), who is playing as an individual, also scored an 89 Saturday.
No. 26 Kentucky (+17) leads the tournament by two strokes over 35th-ranked Michigan State. No. 9 Florida (+20) is in third place, followed by No. 18 LSU (+23) in fourth place. Florida State (+25), which ranks 14th, is in fifth place, with No. 28 Illinois (+26) in sixth. Furman (+32) sits in a three-way tie for seventh with Maryland (+32) and 34th-ranked Clemson (+32).
The Paladins will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 8:48 a.m. in Sunday's final round and will play in a group with Illinois and Maryland. Admission to the tournament is free, and fans are welcome. Live tournament scoring will be available via http://www.golfstat.com.
