CLEMSON, S.C. -- With the score tied at 3-3, Danielle Medvedeva held off freshman Sara Snyder, 2-6, 7-5, 7-5, at flight four to lead Clemson past No. 24 Furman, 4-3, Saturday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C.
The Paladins won the doubles point to start the match. Senior Julia Adams and sophomore Ellie Schoppe, who rank 44th nationally, defeated Cristina Mayorova and Medvedeva, 6-4, at flight one, and Snyder and freshman Jess Dawson blew past Eleni Louka and Jenna Thompson, 6-1, at flight three. The flight two match was unfinished, with junior Madison Dillon and freshman Ellie Schulson tied with Ali DeSpain and Samantha Buyckx, 4-4.
In singles, Thompson topped Dillon, 6-2, 6-4, at flight three to tie the match at 1-all before 53rd-ranked Adams put the Paladins back on top with a 6-4, 6-3 advantage over 121st-ranked Mayorova at flight one. Louka downed Schoppe, 7-3, 7-6(10-8) at flight two to again knot the match, 2-2, but Schulson answered with a 6-3, 6-2 victory versus DeSpain at flight five to put Furman on top, 3-2. At number six, Buyckx outlasted Dawson, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, to push the match to 3-3 and set up the decisive number four contest.
Furman (12-6, 1-0 SoCon) continues the SoCon portion of the schedule when the Paladins entertain Chattanooga on Saturday, April 2, at the Mickel Tennis Center.
