Tallahassee, Fla. – The Furman softball team continued its 16-game road trip on Tuesday evening with a 2-0 loss to the third-ranked Florida State Seminoles in non-conference action at JoAnne Graf Field.
Furman drops to 9-10 on the season while Florida State improves to 20-1 overall.
Danielle Watson (8-1) threw six innings for the Seminoles and earned the win after not giving up a run on three hits, two walks and seven strikeouts.
Sierra Tufts (5-4) suffered the loss allowing two runs on seven hits, four walks and one strikeout over six innings of work. Mack Leonard (1) collected the save pitching one scoreless inning of relief.
Tufts held Florida State without a run over the first two innings before the Seminoles broke through with single runs in the third and fourth. Michaela Edenfield put Florida State on the board first with her RBI single to center field in the bottom of the third and scored Brooke Blankenship. Chloe Culp extended the Seminoles' lead to 2-0 in the fourth when her single to right field brought home Jahni Kerr.
Riley Ludlam extended her hitting streak to five consecutive games after recording one base hit along with
Natalie Morgan and
Hana Hashioka.
Seven different Florida State batters tallied one hit apiece with Edenfield and Culp both registering one RBI.
The Paladins continue their road trip on Wednesday with a doubleheader against the Florida A&M Rattlers. Due to potential inclement weather in the Tallahassee area, the game times have been adjusted to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
