GREENVILLE, S.C. -- No. 72 East Tennessee State slipped past Furman, 6-1, Tuesday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
Furman scored at flight two, where freshman Jamie Connel defeated Yusuf Khamis, 6-2, 6-4.
The Paladins also up a win at flight two doubles, where senior James Roelofse and sophomore Emil Westling topped Dimitri Badra and Francisco Lamas, 6-4.Â
The Buccaneers scored the doubles point to open the match. Frazier Rengifo and Juan S. Zabala slipped past graduate student Ivan Mitric and Connel, who rank 53rd nationally, 6-4, at flight one, and Yusuf Kahmis and Thiago Pernas held off graduate student Drew Singerman and sophomore Ben Cahill, 6-4, at number three. Â
In other singles action, Singerman pushed Lamas to a third set at flight six, but Lamas notched the victory, 6-7(1), 6-3, 6-4. ETSU claimed the remaining singles points, with Badra downing Mitric, 6-4, 6-2, at flight one, and Rengifo holding off freshman Elijah Poritzky, 6-4, 6-4, at number three. At flight four, Zabala topped Roelofse, 7-6(4), 6-1, and at number five, Pernas recorded a 6-3, 6-4 advantage over Westling.
Furman (12-8, 4-1 SoCon) will entertain Wofford Friday at 3 p.m.Â
