Boiling Springs, N.C. – Meagan Beal had career highs of eight points and six goals on Saturday afternoon to lead the Furman women's lacrosse team to its second consecutive Big South victory after defeating the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs 17-14 at Spangler Stadium.
Furman improves to 2-5 overall and 2-0 in the Big South while Gardner-Webb drops to 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
Beal led all players with her eight points after finishing with six goals and two assists and won double-digit draws for the second straight game, finishing with 12. 
Hannah Dintino and 
Paige Harman both finished with five points. Dintino contributed two goals and three assists while Harman added one goal and a career high four assists. 
Anna Roser scored two goals and dished out one assist for three points. 
Katelyn Sousa tied her career highs of three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Lily Rathbun made seven saves in goal and picked up three ground balls to go with a career best two caused turnovers.
Talen Francis paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with five goals while Lauren Deaver tallied four points on three goals and one assist. Jada Preston and Eilish Gately both scored twice while Brittany Sherrod dished out two assists. Jessica Vetter picked up three ground balls. Four different players caused one turnover.
In goal, Danielle Burke registered 12 saves and three ground balls.
The Paladins held an 11-8 lead in the third quarter but saw Gardner-Webb cut its deficit down to 11-10 early in the fourth when Francis' goal with 14:18 remaining cut Furman's advantage down to one. Furman then broke the game open courtesy of a 6-2 run, including a stretch of three consecutive goals, over the next 13 minutes to extend its lead to five. Beal scored twice during the run with Roser, Dintino and 
Sophie Shaw adding a goal apiece. 
Libby Bowen's first goal of the season gave the Paladins a 17-12 lead with 1:44 left in the contest.
The Runnin' Bulldogs picked up the last two goals of the game from Francis and Gately to put the final score at 17-14.
Furman recorded 22 draws for the second consecutive game, tying the school record, and held a 34-30 advantage in shots. The Paladins also finished with 15 ground balls.
The Paladins continue their Big South road trip on Wednesday, April 6 traveling to Farmville, Va. to take on Longwood at 3 p.m.
