Furman Welcomes Western Carolina this Weekend for Three-Game Series

Paladins Hold 34-19 Advantage in All-Time Series

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman softball team returns to Pepsi Stadium this weekend to host the Western Carolina Catamounts in a three-game Southern Conference series.

The series gets underway on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. The teams conclude the series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

Fans can follow the action on www.furmanpaladins.com via live stats. All three games this weekend are being streamed via paid subscription on ESPN+ and the ESPN app. Updates will also be posted on the Furman softball Twitter page (@FurmanSoftball).

The Paladins (15-26, 3-6 SoCon) traveled to Columbia on Wednesday and dropped a doubleheader to the South Carolina Gamecocks at Carolina Softball Stadium. Furman fell 6-5 in game one on a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh before falling 9-1 in six innings during game two.

Emily Bartlett led the Paladins in game one going 1-for-3 with two RBI while Riley Ludlam and Chrissy Fleming both collected one hit and one RBI. In game two, Ludlam provided one hit along with Alex Rose Molinar while Natalie Morgan drove in one run.

Bartlett paces Furman offensively this season with a .294 average and five home runs. Ludlam has driven in a team leading 24 RBI. In the circle, Sierra Tufts boasts six wins and Isabella Cear contributes a 3.50 ERA.

Western Carolina is currently 18-26 overall and 4-8 in the SoCon after splitting a midweek doubleheader against Presbyterian on Tuesday. The Catamounts won two out of three last weekend at home versus Mercer. Bailey Huneycutt leads Western Carolina on offense with a .339 average, 13 home runs and 43 RBI. Myra Twitty adds 10 home runs and 26 RBI. In the circle, Savannah Rice has 10 wins and Jayme Eilers a 1.38 ERA. The Catamounts are under the direction of 11th-year head coach Jim Clift.

The Paladins have previously faced Western Carolina 53 times in program history and lead the all-time series 34-19.

Furman concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday, April 27 with a 6 p.m. contest against 14th-ranked Georgia in Athens, Ga.
