Furman Knocks off League-Leading Campbell in Overtime, 16-15

Dintino Scores Game-Winning Goal in Overtime

Buies Creek, N.C. – Hannah Dintino's game-winning goal with 1.7 seconds remaining in overtime propelled the Furman women's lacrosse team to a 16-15 victory over the first place Campbell Camels in Big South action, Saturday afternoon at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The win, Furman's second in overtime this season, improves the Paladins to 6-7 overall and 6-2 in the Big South. Campbell, who saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end, falls to 10-5 on the year and 7-1 in conference play.

Dintino's sixth, and final, goal of the contest lifted Furman to its second overtime victory in the past three games after defeating Winthrop 15-14 on April 16 in Rock Hill.

The Camels took a 15-14 lead with 6: 16 remaining in the game on Sam Bischoff's third goal. The Paladins held Campbell scoreless for over nine minutes to close out the game while receiving goals from Dintino and Meagan Beal. Beal's goal with 5:37 to go in regulation tied the score at 15-15.

Furman scored five consecutive goals to begin the second quarter and took an 8-4 lead at the 9:59 mark when Dintino scored unassisted. The Camels responded by scoring four of the next six goals to cut their deficit down to 10-8 with 15 seconds left in the first half. The Paladins managed to get a goal just before intermission when Paige Harman scored off Beal's assist to go ahead 11-8.

Beal extended Furman's lead to 12-8 with 7:43 to go in the third quarter before Campbell recorded four straight goals to even the contest at 12-12. The Paladins then netted back-to-back goals from Dintino and Harman to go in front 14-12 at the 10:45 mark of the fourth quarter.

Dintino finished with a game high six points on six goals, both career highs, for Furman while Beal also tallied six points on four goals and two assists. Harman contributed three points on two goals and an assist and Lauren Farber posted two goals. Anna Roser compiled three points on two assists and one goal and Sophie Shaw registered one goal and one assist. Shaw also won a career high eight draws and Beal had five. Katelyn Sousa set new career highs with five caused turnovers and four ground balls. In goal, Lily Rathbun made 11 saves and picked up three ground balls.

Bischoff (3 goals, 1 assist) was one of three Camels to finish at four points along with Megan Matthews (1 goal, 3 assists) and Grace Tompkins (2 goals, 2 assists). Shania Roehrich added a hat trick. Mia Lee grabbed four ground balls and Mackenzie Kolesar caused three turnovers. Emma Strickland recorded 15 saves in goal.

The Paladins concluded the game with 37 shots and held a 19-15 advantage in ground balls and 18-16 in draws. Furman also forced Campbell into 18 turnovers.
