Greenville, S.C. – Freshman
Lloyd Wamu Snell netted a pair of goals in his collegiate debut to power the Furman men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Mars Hill in exhibition action Saturday evening on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.
"Tonight was a great way to start the preseason," said Paladin head coach
Doug Allison, now in his 28
th season. "We were able to see a lot of guys play tonight, and some of them picked up their first career goals."
Snell opened the scoring in the 24
th minute with a low, driving shot into the righthand corner from the top of the box. Senior
Alfredo Diaz-Santillan doubled the margin in the 33
rd minute from the right side of the box following a Paladin set piece.
In the 49
th minute, Furman drew a foul in the box and Snell stepped up to convert from the penalty spot to up the lead to 3-0. Freshman
Ryan Chea, a product of Greenville High School, capped the scoring for Furman at the 56:12 mark on an assist from another local product, former Eastside Eagle
Callum Allison.
Mars Hill spoiled the shutout bid in the 82
nd minute on a long shot from the left side of the 18-yard box to the right corner off the foot of Braxton Robinson.
The Paladins managed a 9-7 edge in total shot attempts. Senior

Carter Nunnery split time in goal in the preseason opener, which was played as three 30-minute periods.
Furman entertains Clemson in exhibition action on Tuesday at Stone Stadium at 7 p.m. Admission is free. The 2022 regular season opener is set for August 25 at Houston Baptist.
