Greenville, S.C. – Clemson scored a pair of second half goals to close out a 3-0 victory over Furman in exhibition men's soccer action Tuesday night on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.
"I was disappointed we gave up three goals tonight, but I felt like we played fantastic for most of the first 45 minutes," said Paladin head coach
Doug Allison. "If we converted our chance early in the second half it could have been a different game. We did get to see a lot of kids play and we'll continue to build towards the regular season opener."
Joseph Skinner opened the scoring in the 21
st minute with a header to the far post off an Alvaro Gomez free kick to put the Tigers in front. Furman threatened in the opening minutes of the second half as
Lloyd Wamu Snell pulled a shot wide and Clemson's Joseph Andema denied
Charlie Boone with a point-blank save in the 53
rd minute.
Clemson doubled the lead at 68:06 when Tim Strobeck ran on to an Ousmane Sylla pass and finished past Furman goalkeeper
Ben Roberts. Marco Garcia capped the scoring from the left side of the box in the 79
th minute by following the rebound off his own shot.
Furman managed a 9-7 edge in total shots with both teams posting five shots on goal.
The Paladins conclude the preseason with a trip to Jacksonville, Fla., to face the North Florida Osprey on Friday night.
