Houston, Texas – Christian Kraus scored in the 88^th minute to earn Furman a 1-1 draw versus Houston Baptist in the men's soccer season opener for both schools Thursday evening in the HBU Invitational at AVEVA Stadium in Houston, Texas.
 
With both squads down to 10 men following a pair of second half red cards, the Huskies grabbed the 1-0 lead at the 84:32 mark when Bryant Farkarlun buried a shot in the upper left-hand corner off an assist from D'Alessandro Herra.
 
Furman answered with the equalizer, the Paladins' first goal of the 2022 season, with just 2:21 remaining in the match as Kraus tucked his shot into the lower left-hand corner at the 87:39 mark. Callum Holland and freshman Slade Starnes were credited with assists on the goal.
 
The physical match featured seven bookings, including a red card shown to Houston Baptist's Elijah Le in the 49^thminute and a 70^th minute red to Furman midfielder Dylan Lane.
 
The Paladins generated 17 total shots to just seven for the Huskies, but both teams finished with six shots on target. Senior Ben Roberts earned the victory in goal after stopping five shots. Alex Aitken notched five saves for HBU.
 
Furman concludes play in the HBU Invitational on Saturday at AVEVA Stadium versus the University of Incarnate Word, who dropped a 3-0 decision to Campbell on Thursday night in the season opener for both teams.
