Men's Soccer Blanks Incarnate Word In HBU Invitational, 1-0

Redhead Scores From Penalty Spot In First Half

Houston, Texas – Junior Tommy Redhead converted from the penalty spot in the first half to lift Furman to a 1-0 victory over Incarnate Word in the HBU Invitational at AVEVA Stadium Saturday night.

After the Paladins controlled much of the possession in the early going, Furman drew a foul in the box at the 37:01 mark. Redhead, a native of London, England, stepped up and finished from the spot to hand his team its first lead of the season.

Furman (1-0-1) held Incarnate Word to just one shot on goal in the second half, including only one total shot in the final 16 minutes. UIW (0-2-0) kept the margin at 1-0 when a defender saved a Reece Fragle shot off the line with 10 minutes to play.

Senior Ben Roberts, a Houston, Texas, native, stopped two shots to earn the clean sheet for the Paladins. UIW's Hugo Constant took the loss despite four saves for the Cardinals.

Both teams attempted 11 shots in the match with Furman holding a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.

The Paladins return to the pitch on Friday when they travel to Boiling Springs, N.C., to take on Gardner-Webb. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
