Cookeville, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech netted three goals second half goals on its way to a 4-1 victory over Furman in non-conference women's soccer action Thursday evening in Cookeville, Tenn.
The Golden Eagles (1-2-0) took the first half lead less than 19 minutes into the match as Yao Giada Zhou, who recorded three assists on the night, played a cross from the endline to Bailey Taylor who tapped a shot past Furman goalkeeper
Addison Corn at the near post.
After Furman's
Valentina Mosquera missed wide on a one-versus-one opportunity in the opening moments of the second half, Tennessee Tech doubled its lead when Chloe Smith curled a shot off the far-right post from outside the left corner of the box at the 46:32 mark. Just four minutes later, Smith upped the margin to 3-0 by heading a cross past Corn on assists from Taylor and Giada Zhou.
Allison Lee added a Golden Eagle goal at the 59:08 mark on a shot off the left post on an assist from Smith to increase TTU's lead to 4-0.
Mosquera, a transfer from Winthrop, put Furman on the board with her first goal as a Paladin at the 83:03 mark.
The Paladins posted a 13-11 edge in total shots, but Tennessee Tech managed a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. Maggie Conrad, who stopped two shots, earned the win in goal for the Golden Eagles.
Nora Sampson made one save off the bench for Furman.
Furman (2-1-0) is back in action on Sunday afternoon when it travels to Alumni Stadium in Davidson, N.C., to face former Southern Conference foe Davidson at 2:00.
