HANAHAN, S.C. -- Senior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (-4) tied for tenth to pace the Furman women's golf team Tuesday in the final round of the 18th annual Cougar Classic at the par 71, 6,269 yard Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.
A native of Boischatel, Québec, Rhéaume teed off on No. 12 in the shotgun start and notched a birdie on her first hole. She added consecutive birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 to turn at 2-under, then posted a final birdie on No. 9 to finish the day with a 1-under 70. She finished the tournament five strokes back of individual medalist Andrea Ligneli (-9) of Ole Miss, who won by a stroke with scores of 67-68-69=204.
Rhéaume was one of two Paladins who finished among the top 15, as senior Anna Morgan (-3) tied for 13th. Morgan tied Rhéaume with a team-high four birdies on the day after finishing the tournament with back to back birdies on No. 10 and No. 11 to card an even 71 on Tuesday.
Freshman Faith Johnson (+12) tied for 78th after carding a 74 with three birdies in the final around, while freshman Chloe Johnson (+14) posted a 73 with birdies on No. 9 and No. 12 to tie for 85th. Junior Caroline Crumrine (+16) tallied a career-low 71 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 5 on Tuesday, tying for 92nd.
Freshman Liza Lapeyre (+4), who played as an individual, shot a final-round 75 with a birdie on No. 18 to tie for 45th.
Ole Miss (-13) won the tournament by one stroke over Clemson (-12). Host College of Charleston (-3) placed third, followed by Florida State (-2) in fourth place. Miami (E) and Michigan State (E) tied for fifth. The Paladins (+16) finished 15th in the loaded field, ahead of Power 5 programs North Carolina (+12) and Louisville (+28).
Furman will entertain 17 teams at the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C., Sept. 23-25.
