Box Score Atlanta, Ga. – The Furman men's tennis team fell in its season opener to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
Georgia Tech improves to 1-0 on the season while Furman falls to 0-1 overall.
The Yellow Jackets captured the doubles point, taking an early 1-0 lead, after winning the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, the combination of
Elijah Poritzky and
Jerry Barton secured a 6-4 win against Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel.
In singles competition,
Thomas Kennedy, playing in his first collegiate match, led the Paladins with his victory at the No. 4 position. The Atlanta, Ga. native earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory in straight sets over Rohan Sachdev.
Furman continues its four-match road trip to begin the season on Sunday afternoon when it travels to Clemson for a 12 p.m. match against the Tigers.
