Furman Falls At Wofford In SoCon Opener, 79-55

DePetro Scores 14 To Pace Paladins

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Rachael Rose scored 16 points and Wofford used strong 3-point shooting to race past Furman, 79-55, in Southern Conference women's basketball season opening action Thursday evening at Richardson Indoor Stadium.

The Terriers (11-4, 1-0 SoCon) converted 13-of-31 shots from 3-point range to outscore the Paladins (8-8, 0-1 SoCon) 39-6 from beyond the arc.  Furman connected on just 2-of-17 3-pointers in the contest that Wofford commanded almost from the start.

Rose, a sophomore guard, hit on both of her 3-point tries as seven Terriers connected form long range in the game.  Annabelle Schultz accounted for all 12 of her points from 3-point land, connecting on 4-of-9 tries.

Jackie Carmen also tallied 12 points, and Lilly Hatton finished with 11 for Wofford, which shot 46.9 percent from the field (30x64).

Junior guard Evie DePetro came off the bench to lead Furman with 14 points, matching a career high.

The Paladins struggled from the field, converting just 21-of-62 shots (33.9%).

Wofford raced to a 24-12 lead after one period and led 41-24 at intermission.  The Terriers took total control in the third period, outscoring the Paladins 22-9.

Grace van Rij and Sydney James joined DePetro in double figures with 12 points apiece.

The Paladins return to action next Thursday when they travel to face UNC Greensboro in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
