SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The 18th-ranked Furman women's cross country team won the Upstate XC Invite Saturday at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Paladins scored 66 points for the victory. Charleston Southern placed second with 139 points, while Radford finished third with 149 points. Furman beat out Power 5 foes South Carolina (6th- 176 points) and Virginia Tech (7th - 190 points) and a slew of SoCon teams, including Mercer, ETSU, UNCG, Western Carolina, Wofford, VMI, and Citadel.
Senior Madelynne Cadeau from Cumming, Ga., paced the Paladins with a time of 17:19.1 to finish sixth in the 5K race. Sophomore Emma Jones was close behind in eighth with a time of 17:26.5, while senior Megan Marvin also finished in the top 15, taking 14th place at 17:42.8. Senior Emily Little turned in a time of 17:47.8 for 16th place, while freshman Lily Feingold completed the scoring in 22nd place at 17:55.9.Â
Sophomore Clair Garrett posted a time of 19:00.6 for 79th place, and senior Kylie Wittman finished 154th at 20:08.9.
On the men's side, three Paladins competed in the 8K race. Junior Matthew Smith led Furman with a time of 24:52.9 to finish 15th, while freshman Brayden Seymour placed 39th with a time of 25:32.9. Junior Casey Burr recorded a time of 26:15.7 for 86th place. Â
The Paladins now turn their attention to the Southern Conference Championship, which will be held Oct. 27 in Greensboro, N.C. Furman is looking for its 11th-straight league title on both the men's and women's sides. Â
