Furman Falls At Georgia Tech, 91-56

Session Leads Paladins With 20 Points

ATLANTA,GA. -- Tonie Morgan scored 19 points and Georgia Tech used a fast start to take command on the way to a 91-56 victory over Furman in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the McCamish Center.

Morgan delivered a strong all-around game, connecting on 9-of-16 shots and a free throw for her 19 points, which she combined with nine rebounds and seven assists in just 24 minutes of playing time to pace the Yellow Jackets (2-0), who raced to a 19-6 first quarter lead.

Georgia Tech, which led 36-19 at the break, outscored Furman (1-1) 30-20 in the third quarter to seize total control.

Playing without its top performer, All-SoCon guard Tate Walters who scored a game high 21 points in the Paladins' season opening 71-61 win over UNC Asheville on Monday, Furman got a game and career high 20-point performance from junior forward Jada Session.  The Luela, Ga., product hit on 7-of-15 shots and 5-of-8 3-pointers while adding six rebounds.

Sydney Ryan and Kate Johnson contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Furman, which got a team high rebounds from Sydney James.

Kayla Blackshear and Rusne Augustinaite tallied 14 points apiece for the Yellow Jackets, who shot 52.1 percent from the field, including a 13-for-21 clip (61.9 percent) in their 30-point third period.  

Georgia Tech outrebounded Furman, 47-34, and outscored the Paladins in the paint, 50-26.

Furman returns to action on Tuesday when it faces Charleston Southern in a 6:00 p.m. game in North Charleston, S.C.
