Session Powers Furman Past Elon, 73-47

Paladins' Take Control With 23-0 First Half Run

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Jada Session scored a career high 21 points and Furman used a dominating first half run to take command en route to a 73-47 victory over Elon in women's basketball action Thursday evening at Timmons Arena.

The victory improved Furman to 7-5 on the season while the loss dropped Elon to 2-8 on the campaign.

Session, a junior forward from Locust Grove, Ga., connected on 9-of-14 shots and all three opportunities at the free throw line for her 21 points, which topped her previous career best of 20 points registered against Georgia Tech earlier this year.

Session tallied nine of her points in the first quarter to fuel a 17-0 Furman run that helped the Paladins overcome a 13-4 deficit for a 21-13 lead after one period.

The Paladins' extended the run to 23-0 by scoring the first six points of the second quarter on 3-pointers by Niveya Henley and Sydney Ryan that stretched the advantage to 27-13 before Ava Leroux halted Elon's 10:30 scoreless streak with a basket at the 5:53 mark.

Furman closed out the second quarter by outscoring 10-2 to take a 37-17 lead into halftime.

The Paladins were never threatened in the second half in cruising to the victory, which halted a four-game series losing skid to the Phoenix, a former Southern Conference rival.

Niveya Henley followed Session in the scoring column with 14 points, and Kate Johnson finished with 12 points for the Paladins.

Furman shot 45.3 percent from the field, connecting on 29-of-64 shots. Elon, which drained five of its first six shots in taking the early lead, finished the contest just 16-of-54 from the field (.296).

The Paladins were especially lethal from 3-point range, draining 10-of-22 shots from beyond the arc.

Furman also dominated on the boards, posting a 45-30 advantage behind Session's game high eight caroms.

Maraja Pass led Elon with 12 points.

Furman plays at Kentucky on Sunday in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
