ATHENS, GA. -- Zoesha Smith scored 18 points and Georgia used a late third quarter run to take control on the way to an 85-55 victory over Furman in women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum.
The win improves Georgia to 6-2 on the season while Furman falls to 5-4.
After Furman's
Sydney Ryan canned a 3-pointer to pull the Paladins to within 50-42 with 2:27 to go in the third quarter, Georgia answered with an 11-0 run to end the period with a 61-42 lead.
Smith connected on 8-of-17 shots, which she combined with a game high eight rebounds to pace the Bulldogs, who got 17 points from Javyn Nicholson.
Georgia shot 50.7 percent from the field, connecting on 36-of-71 shots, while Furman managed just 34.4 percent shooting (22x64).
The Paladins were paced by
Tate Walters' 14 points. Â
Niveya Henley finished with 13 points and
Kate Johnson had 12.
Walters had a season high seven assists.
Georgia point guard Chloe Chapman was credited with 10 assists in the contest.Â
Furman returns to action on Wednesday when it plays host to Bob Jones in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena.
