First Place Furman Renews Rivalry With The Citadel In Wednesday Trip To Charleston

Paladins Going For Ninth Straight Victory

Greenville, S.C. – The Southern Conference-leading Furman Paladins go for their ninth straight win and seventh consecutive road victory on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. matchup versus The Citadel Bulldogs at McAlister Fieldhouse in Charleston, S.C.

Wednesday night's game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and fans can listen to the radio broadcast on The Fan Upstate at 97.7 FM, 1330 AM, and via the Audacy app with Dan Scott and Tom Van Hoy on the call.

Owners of the nation's fifth longest winning streak and third longest road winning streak, Furman (21-6, 12-2 SoCon) travels to Charleston with the chance of joining Gonzaga, Houston, and Saint Mary's as the only programs to tally at least 22 victories in six of the last seven seasons. The Paladins eight-game SoCon winning streak is it best since winning 10 consecutive league games during the 2016-17 season. The 1974 and 1975 Furman teams set the school record with 20 straight SoCon wins.

Furman, ranked No. 82 in the NCAA Evaluation Tool (Net) and in the Pomeroy Ratings on Monday, continued its winning ways this past Saturday with a 93-59 rout of Western Carolina in front of a sold-out Timmons Arena crowd of 2,577. Jalen Slawson and Marcus Foster paced the Paladins with 17 points apiece and Mike Bothwell added 16. Furman opened the game on a 14-0 run and used a 17-0 spurt early in the second half to pull away from the Catamounts for the 14th triumph in the last 15 meetings versus Western Carolina.

Entering Wednesday, Furman sports a 131-87 series lead versus The Citadel. The Paladins have won each of the last nine meetings between the schools and 13 of the last 14, including a 97-72 decision at Timmons Arena on January 4, behind 27 points from Bothwell. Head coach Bob Richey's team has claimed four straight victories at McAlister Fieldhouse with the latest, a 94-59 verdict, coming last season.

The Citadel dipped to 9-18 overall and 4-10 in league play after suffering its sixth straight loss, a 76-70 defeat at Samford on Saturday. Prior to the skid, The Citadel had won three of its previous four games, including a pair of wins over Western Carolina.

Following Wednesday's contest, Furman returns to Timmons Arena on Sunday, February 19, for a nationally-televised SoCon showdown versus ETSU on ESPNU. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. and the Paladins will honor seniors Bothwell, Rett Lister, and Slawson during pregame ceremonies.
