No. 7 Clemson Slugs Past Furman, 10-0

Paladins Host Furman Invitational February 17-19

Greenville, S.C. – Three pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout and No. 7 Clemson slugged three home runs in a 10-0 victory over Furman Tuesday night at Pepsi Stadium.

Valerie Cagle (3-0) scattered three hits in four scoreless innings of work and fanned seven batters without issuing a walk to earn the win. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a two-run homer to help the Tigers improve to 6-0 on the season.

Clemson took the lead in the second inning on JoJo Hyatt's RBI single before adding two more runs in the third, including a solo blast off the bat of Maddie Moore. Alia Logoleo belted a solo shot in the fifth and Carolina Jacobsen delivered a two-run single the following inning to extend the margin to 6-0. The Tigers added four unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning, highlighted by Cagle's homer.

Junior Sierra Tufts (1-1) took the loss for the Paladins after allowing three runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings in the circle. Sophomore Emme Buzhardt came on to get out of a bases loaded jam against the heart of the Clemson order in the fourth inning. She allowed seven runs, three earned, in 3.2 innings of work.

Cagle, Jacobsen, Aby Viera, and Hyatt powered Clemson's 12-hit attack with two hits apiece. Senior Riley Ludlam went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Paladins at the plate.

The Paladins (1-2) continue their homestand this weekend when they host Bellarmine, Binghamton, Sacred Heart, and Towson in the Furman Invitational. The action starts on Friday and runs through Sunday afternoon.
