GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Jackie Carman and Rachael Rose scored 22 points apiece to help Wofford hold off Furman, 69-66, in Southern Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in downtown Greenville.
Carman, a fifth-year senior guard, connected on 9-of-21 shots, including a 25-foot 3-pointer — her only trey of the game — with 2:01 remaining to give Wofford (16-6, 6-2 SoCon) a 68-62 lead that proved to be the game winning points.
Furman (9-14, 1-7 SoCon) had a chance to tie it, but
Jaelyn Acker's 3-point try with five seconds remaining rimmed out and time expired.
Grace van Rij led the Paladins with 22 points, and
Sydney James finished with 12 points. Â
Sydney Ryan finished with 11 points and a game high 11 rebounds.
Rose's 22-point effort featured 10-of-18 shooting, which she combined with a game high eight assists and four steals.
Furman registered a 52-32 rebounding advantage, including a 26-14 margin on the offensive glass, but the edge was negated by 19 turnovers, which Wofford converted into a 20-3 scoring advantage.
The Terriers led 58-49 a minute into the fourth quarter before Furman rallied behind a 13-3 run to take a 62-61 lead following a corner 3-pointer by Ryan with 4:52 to go.
Rose answered for Wofford on the ensuing possession with a layup to put the Terriers up, 63-62, and added another layup at the 3:15 mark to extend the lead to 65-62.
Furman failed to convert on a pair of shots on its next trip down the floor, with Rose claiming the rebound off the second miss and feeding Carman, who drained the 3-pointer from well beyond the top of circle to extend the Terriers' lead to 68-62.
van Rij's 22-point performance, a season high, included 9-of-11 shooting and nine rebounds.
Furman connected on 7-of-20 3-point attempts and limited Wofford to just 3-of-16 from 3-point range.
The Paladins will look to halt their five-game losing skid on Wednesday when they play host to Western Carolina at Timmons Arena at 7:00 p.m.
