GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's women's basketball team continues its three-game home stand on Thursday when it plays host to Western Carolina before entertaining UNC Greensboro on Saturday.
Tipoff for Thursday's contest at Timmons Arena is set for 7:00 p.m. Â Saturday's clash, sponsored by Bon Secours and the first game of a hoops doubleheader, is an 11:30 a.m. start and will mark Furman's annual "Play4Kay" contest in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Saturday's women's contest versus UNCG is a general admission event. Â At the conclusion of the women's game, reserved ticketing and seat assignments for the 2:00 p.m. men's game will be implemented. Â All fans are asked to occupy seats designated on their reserved tickets.
Furman (9-14, 1-7 SoCon) will look to halt a five-game losing skid on Thursday versus Western Carolina (9-15, 2-7 SoCon). The Paladins, who fell to Wofford, 69-66, on Saturday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena, recorded their last win on Jan. 14 with a 60-46 triumph over the Catamounts.
Freshman guard
Jaelyn Acker's 12-point performance led a balanced Paladin scoring effort in the win in Cullowhee, N.C., which saw Furman outscore Western Carolina 16-2 in a decisive second quarter.
The Paladins own an 11-game series winning streak against the Catamounts and have won the last 10 meetings in Greenville — the last loss, an 88-83 triple overtime affair, coming on Jan. 23, 2013.  Furman leads the all-time series, 51-35, and is 30-11 in Greenville.
Graduate All-Southern Conference forward
Grace van Rij (13.1 ppg) leads Furman in scoring and is coming off a season high 22-point, nine-rebound performance against Wofford that included 9-of-11 shooting from the field. Â The 6-foot-2 Knoxville, Tenn., product ranks third in the SoCon in field goal percentage (.540).
Acker (11.0 ppg) is next on Furman's ledger and ranks second among league freshman in scoring.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink for Saturday's game versus UNCG. The first 150 fans thru the gate will receive a free 'Dins Win vs. Breast Cancer' shirt. Â In addition, Zeta Tau Alpha sorority will be handing out pink ribbons at arena entrances.
Attendees will have the opportunity to complete "I Play For..." cards and post them in the arena.
Fans are also invited to take part in the "Play4Kay Free Throw Challenge" by pledging support for every free throw the Paladins make in the month of February. Â Click
