Furman Swept on Day Two of Campbell Invitational

Buies Creek, N.C. – 
The Furman softball team continued play at the Campbell Invitational on Saturday falling to the Canisius Golden Griffins and host Campbell Camels at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

The Paladins began the day falling to Canisius 5-3 and followed with a 7-3 defeat against Campbell.

Furman (4-14) concludes play at the Campbell Invitational on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. versus Campbell.

Game 1 – Furman 3, Canisius 5
The Golden Griffins used a four-run bottom of the third inning to rally for a 5-3 victory over the Paladins.

Kiley Perry got Furman on the board early in the top of the first when her double drove in Riley Ludlam. After Canisius tied the game in the bottom-half of the inning, Hana Hashioka put the Paladins back in front, 2-1, in the top of the third with her bases loaded walk.

The Golden Griffins took the lead for good in the bottom of the third plating four runs to take a 5-2 lead. Nicole Rivait highlighted the inning with her two RBI double while Madysen Burkey contributed an RBI single. Prior to Burkey's single, Rivait scored on a Furman fielding error.

Ainsley Yoshizumi cut the Paladins' deficit down to 5-3 in the top of the fifth when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Kate Wiggins (1-0) picked up the win in the circle after giving up two runs, three walks, and two strikeouts over three innings. Sierra Tufts (3-5) suffered the loss after tossing 3.1 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.

Ludlam led Furman offensively collecting three hits and scoring twice. Perry and Sylvia Burroughs both registered one hit.

Seven different Canisius players tallied one hit apiece while Christie McGee-Ross scored two runs.

Game 2 – Furman 3, Campbell 7
The Camels scored the game's first six runs, highlighted by a five-run fourth, to secure a 7-3 win over the Paladins.

Allyiah Swiney put Campbell in front 1-0 in the bottom of the second on her RBI single before the Camels broke the game open in the fourth scoring five times. Lindsey Hunt's two RBI single would extend Campbell's lead to 6-0 after Alyssa Henault, Charlie Montgomery, and Claudia Ware all drove in runs during the frame.

Furman recorded a run in the top of the fifth on Ashlee Lykins' RBI single, scoring Chrissy Fleming, but the Camels answered in their half of the inning with Swiney's RBI double to put the score at 7-1. Hashioka rounded out the scoring for the Paladins in the sixth when she plated Perry on an RBI double down the left field line and later scored on Burroughs' single.

Kayla Howald (3-2) secured the win in the circle after surrendering two runs over six innings of work on six hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Lauralee Scott (1-4) took the loss following a 3.2 inning performance that saw her give up six runs (four earned) on eight hits, two walks, and a strikeout. 

Hashioka compiled a 2-for-2 performance at the plate for Furman while Lykins, Perry, Burroughs, and Alex Rose Molinar all collected one hit.

Henault went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead Campbell offensively.
