HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Senior Anna Morgan (-6) carded a 4-under 68 to propel the Furman (+14) women's golf team to a 15-stroke lead Monday in round two of the 2023 Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship at the par-72, 6,036 yard Moss Creek Golf Club's South Course in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Morgan, who hails from Spartanburg, S.C., notched four birdies on the front nine, including three straight from No. 4 through No. 6, and stretched her lead with two additional birdies on No. 13 and No. 17 to finish with a team-high six birdies on the day.  She enters Tuesday's final round five strokes ahead of Madison Isaacson (-1) of Western Carolina, who sits alone in second place.

Paladin freshman Chloe Johnson (+2) is in fourth place after posting a 1-over 73 with three birdies in Monday's round, while freshman Faith Johnson (+11) and junior Caroline Crumrine (+11) are tied for 13th.  Faith Johnson rebounded with a 74 with three birdies in round two and finished the round strong with birdies on No. 15 and No. 17, while Crumrine tallied a 79 with birdies on No. 13 and No. 18 in the second round.  Freshman Liza Lapeyre (+12) shot a 78 on Monday to tie for 18th.

Furman, which is seeking its 20th SoCon title, leads Mercer (+29) by 15 strokes, while Western Carolina (+30) is in third place, just one shot behind the Bears.  ETSU (+38) and Wofford (+48) round out the top five. 

The 54-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday with teams teeing off of No. 1 beginning at 8:30 a.m. and off of No. 10 starting at 9 a.m.  Furman will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 9:20 a.m. and will play in a group with Western Carolina and Mercer.

The winner of the SoCon Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, while the individual champion will also earn automatic regional qualification.  The NCAA field will be announced live on the Golf Channel on Wed., April 26, at 1 p.m.
