GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman track athletes recorded 16 top-25 finishes this weekend, spread across three meets in three states.
At the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Friday, freshman Jenna Mulhern finished as runner-up in the 10,000m with a time of 34:31.44 to lead all Paladins for the weekend. Senior Josh Powers placed 13th with a time of 9:14.00 in the 3,000m Steeplechase, while senior Mac Roberts placed 18th at 3:51.60 in the men's 1,500m. Also on the men's side, senior Adam Beucler finished 21st at 14:08.47 in the 5,000m. For the women, sophomore Kaylie Armitage tallied a time of 4:20.56 to finish 16th in the 1,500m, and senior Abigail Robertson was 23rd with a time of 16:27.89 in the 5,000m.
Due to heavy rains in Richmond, Ky., on Friday night, the Rick Erdmann Twilight at Eastern Kentucky was postponed until Saturday morning. In the 3,000m Steeplechase, junior Carson Williams placed fifth with a time of 8:43.56 and senior Cameron Ponder finished seventh at 8:52.22.
In the final meet of the weekend, the USC Open in Columbia, S.C., sophomore Ethan Vargas placed third in the 5,000m with a time of 15:15.06. Sophomore Casey Burr crossed the line in 15:53.56 in the event, taking 13th place.
Five women competed at USC for Furman. Freshman Clair Garrett finished fifth in the 1,500m with a time of 4:47.98, and junior Emily Little posted a time of 4:57.12 for 19th place in the invitational portion of the event. Junior Beth Donnelly was 24th in the event at 5:10.98. Little also competed in the 5,000m, where she finished sixth with a time of 18:08.34. Freshman Emma Jones turned in a time of 18:21.01 in the event, placing ninth, and senior Caroline Nguyen finished 15th in the 400m intermediate hurdles with a time of 1:07.77.
The Paladins will compete at the Southern Conference Championships, May 8-9, in Cullowhee, N.C.
