Chrissy Fleming,
Caitlin Goldwait, and
Lauralee Scott were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, it was announced on Tuesday.
Fleming, a junior from Windermere, Fla., saw playing time in 34 games, making starts at second base and in the Furman outfield. An applied mathematics major with a 3.96 GPA, she batted .215 with three doubles, two triples, and scored 12 runs. Fleming swiped five bases in five attempts.
Goldwait, who sports a 3.74 GPA, started 47 games in the Paladin outfield as a sophomore. The Sugar Land, Texas, native hit .257, scored 21 runs and swiped nine bases in 10 attempts. Goldwait matched a Furman single-game record on April 6 collecting five hits in a victory over eventual Southern Conference champion UNC Greensboro.
Scott, a native of Greenwood, S.C., earned three victories and posted a 5.22 ERA in 61.2 innings of work in the circle. The righthander, who boasts a 3.73 GPA and is majoring in health sciences, earned SoCon Player of the Week honors on April 24 after allowing just one earned run over eight innings of relief work as the Paladins notched wins over Queens and Samford.
College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees are required to carry a minimum 3.50 GPA and play in at least 50% of their team's games. Pitchers must throw at least 10 innings for the season.
Fleming, Goldwait, and Scott will be included on the CSC Academic All-America ballot, which will be voted on this month. The Academic All-America teams will be announced at noon on June 6.
