Greenville, S.C. – Four Paladins earned All-Big South honors on Thursday afternoon as the conference announced its yearly women's lacrosse awards.
Seniors
Meagan Beal and
Hannah Dintino, and junior
Katelyn Sousa, were named first team All-Big South while sophomore
Anna Roser garnered a spot on the second team. Dintino was also placed on the All-Academic Team.
The quartet helped the Paladins finish the regular season with a 10-7 overall record and 7-2 mark in the Big South, winning their final three games to tie for second in the conference standings. Furman will be the second seed in the upcoming Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship.
A native of Brewster, N.Y., Beal leads the Paladins this season in points, goals, assists, and draws. She has compiled 68 points on 45 goals and 23 assists, while winning 73 draws. Beal, who was named Big South Offensive Player of the Week on April 11, ranks in the top-10 for the conference in points per game, goals per game, assists per game, and draws per game. She became the fifth player in program history this season to score 100 career goals and currently sits second all-time in goals and draws, third in points, and tied for fourth in assists. Beal broke the program's single-game points record at Wofford by registering 11 on six goals and a career high five assists. She tied her career high of six goals in a game twice versus Longwood and Wofford.
Dintino has started in all 17 games this season for Furman and is fourth on the team in scoring with 46 points on 33 goals and 13 assists. A two-time team captain, she ranks third with 46 draws highlighted by a career best 11 against Gardner-Webb. Dintino joined Beal by reaching 100 career goals this season, becoming the sixth player in program history to do so. She has scored seven hat tricks this season including four against Big South opponents. The Westminster, Md., native matched her career best of four ground balls at Virginia Tech and three assists twice against Longwood and High Point.
Sousa, a team captain in 2022, has also started in all 17 games for the Paladins at defense. She leads the team with 23 caused turnovers and is tied for third with 23 ground balls. The New Fairfield, Conn., native has also contributed eight draws and one goal, which came in a 9-8 road win at Old Dominion. Sousa caused three turnovers four different times and picked up three ground balls on three occasions. She won three draws at Mercer. Sousa was part of a Furman defense this season that gave up the third-fewest goals among Big South teams.
Roser, a native of Easton, Md., is second on the Paladins this season with 56 points on 42 goals and 14 assists. She has also provided 18 draws, 10 ground balls, and five caused turnovers. Starting in all 17 games, Roser ranks 10
th or better for the Big South in points per game and goals per game. She was named Big South Offensive Player of the Week on April 25. Roser set a new single-game career high of four assists against Gardner-Webb while matching her career best of eight points. She finished the regular season scoring a hat trick in eight of the final nine games highlighted by a season best five in a 16-15 win at High Point.
