GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team placed four players on the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as announced today by the CSC Academic All-America Committee. As members of the all-district team, the Paladin players will now be placed on the national ballot for CSC Academic All-America consideration.
Senior Madison Dillon and sophomores Jess Dawson, Ellie Schulson, and Sara Snyder each were honored with a selection.
Dillon, a native of Hilton Head, S.C., graduated with a degree in business administration on Saturday. She boasts a 3.7 GPA. During Dillon's five seasons at Furman, the Paladins amassed a perfect 29-0 Southern Conference regular season record and claimed four league regular season titles plus three SoCon tournament championships. An All-SoCon first team selection for doubles and a second-team selection for singles, Dillon was nationally ranked in singles and competed on the 2022 Paladin team that ranked as high as 19th nationally, a program record. A member of the ITA All-Academic team and the 2023 recipient of the C. Dan Joyner Outstanding Athletic Leader Award, she holds Furman single season records with 26 doubles wins and a .963 doubles winning percentage in 2019.
Dawson hails from Hull, East Yorkshire and is an accounting major with a 3.62 GPA. She was honored with an All-SoCon first team citation for doubles this season, along with Snyder, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, who holds a 3.66 GPA in health sciences. The Paladin duo was consistently ranked throughout the season and currently sit at 76th nationally. The Paladin duo went 12-11 overall for the spring season and 6-1 in the league, with key non-conference victories over Tennessee and the Wake Forest doubles team of Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth, who ranked tenth nationally when the two teams squared off.
A native of Newburyport, Mass., Schulson is a business administration major with a 3.64 GPA. She was named to the 2023 All-SoCon first team for singles after going 5-2 in the league at flight one singles with victories over UNCG, Western Carolina, Wofford, Chattanooga, and Samford. At the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic, she defeated players from Ohio State, Wake Forest, and Vanderbilt to win her flight championship, and she reached the round of 8 at the ITA Carolinas Regional.
Nominations and voting for the CSC Academic All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Communicators, formerly College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
CSC Academic All-District Team selections were required to have posted a 3.50 or better GPA, completed at least two semesters at their current school, played in at least half their team's competitions, and be considered a starter or key contributor. Freshmen and student-athletes who have transferred in the last year were not eligible.
Each school was also limited in the number of selections it could nominate for each sport.
