Clinton, S.C. – Valentina Mosquera scored in the 56
th minute as the Furman women's soccer team claimed a 1-0 victory over Presbyterian in the regular season opener for both teams on Thursday at Martin Stadium in Clinton, S.C.
After Mosquera created several dangerous chances in the first half, Furman grabbed the lead at the 55:22 mark when the Paladins lined a cross into the box from deep on the right wing. PC goalkeeper Kelly Hall spilled the ball and a clearance attempt settled at the feet of Mosquera who poked in the first goal of the season.
"It's great to get a win on opening night, especially on the road," said Furman head coach
Andrew Burr, who notched his 230
th victory in 19 seasons at the helm of the Paladins program. "We'll learn from our mistakes tonight, improve on some things, and get set to face Georgia Southern on Sunday."

Addison Corn earned the victory in goal for the Paladins. She totaled three saves, all in the first half, to record the shutout.
Presbyterian fashioned a 10-8 advantage in shot attempts while both teams registered three shots on target. Furman earned six corner kicks to just four for the Blue Hose.
The Paladins return to action when they host former Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern in the home opener on Sunday, August 20, at 3 p.m. at Stone Stadium.
