Greenville, S.C. – Paige Powers and Jordan Christy both had 13 kills on Saturday afternoon to lead the Georgia Southern Eagles to a 3-2 (16-25, 25-20, 32-30, 23-25, 12-15) exhibition victory over the Furman volleyball team at Alley Gymnasium.
Lauren Haynes paced the Paladins with a double-double of 14 kills and 20 digs, both team highs, while hitting .333 offensively.
Lindsay Walch compiled 13 kills on .550 hitting while
Ava Augustson provided 12 kills.
Izzy Castelloe turned in nine kills.
Ella Abraham also registered a double-double with 35 assists and 12 digs, and
Emily Navarro dished out 16 assists. Defensively,
Kennedy Seekford had 10 digs and
Genevieve Perry four blocks.
Powers and Christy were two of four Eagles to finish with 10 or more kills along with Reagan Barth (11) and Jillian Gray (10). Kirsten Barrett tallied a double-double of 30 assists and 10 digs. Callaway Cason collected 25 assists and Ashlyn Lovett 21 digs.
Furman concluded the match hitting .239 as a team led by Walch's .550 clip and totaled nine blocks.
The Paladins open their regular season schedule next weekend at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. Furman faces Quinnipiac and Morgan State on August 25 before taking on host Virginia Tech on August 26.
